The Cadillac Brand was founded by Henry M.Leland in 1902, for the luxury division of General Motors Corporation Ltd. Cadillac first introduced its mass produced V8 Engine in 1915 and first electric starter in 1909, straightaway setting an industrial benchmark for the future of Automotive Industry.
Automotive Design point of view, the Cadillac had many innovative and flamboyant features over the years that didn’t exist in many Motor Car brands around the world. That was the key to its success and to become one of the finest luxury car brands in the world. Some of its iconic design features can be listed as follows,

- Towering Tail Fins (1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz) which was inspired by a Fight Jet used in World War.
- Vertical Tail lights (Especially from Late 1960s to date) to testify its grace and flair. Some early 1950s Cadillacs had its petrol lid hidden under tail light which was able to flip open when required.
- Aggressive looking front grilles and bumpers to showcase its dominance and presence on road.
- Intricate chrome detailing also added its vehicles opulence and luxury.
- Highly powerful engines with big blocks especially during first 100 years of its manufacture. Most of the time, Cadillac had big V8 Engines and some case big V16 Engines.
- Technology integration was present at an advanced level even from the beginning. Some of the 1950s and 1960s models had advanced hydraulic and electrically operated systems which were way ahead of its time. 1964 Cadillac even had the Automatic Climate Control System which was not an option in any other car in that era.
- Luxury comfort features including high quality materials used for interior and upholstery gave the brand that ultra-luxury feel. Adding to that long wheel base was one of the common features of Cadillac giving the maximum space and comfort to the passengers. Cadillacs also had large boot space allowing a typical large family to go on long leisure cruises.
- Continental and non-Continental feature was a common. Continental cars had the spare wheel hidden vertically inside the boot that featuring an exterior semi arch from behind. This feature become quite common in some other luxury car competitors including Lincoln, Packard, etc.
- Flamboyant wrap around windows gave the driver maximum visibility and spaceship type feel
- One of the most common design features of Cadillac cars is exterior and interior colour selection. These colours were so soothing and yet extremely customer attractive.
- Lastly modern technological innovation is the prime driver of current Cadillac Motor Company. Features like Automatic emergency parking, Lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, Active noise cancellation and seating design are some examples. Company also introduced series of electric vehicles (EV) over past 20 year so including models like Lyriq, Escalade IQ, Optiq and new ultra-luxury Celestiq.
